PATTAYA AFTER DARK PATTAYA --:-- READING THE NIGHT…

// GUIDE — THE SCENE, MAPPED

GAY
PATTAYA

Pattaya runs one of Asia's biggest gay scenes — and since the pandemic it has a new centre of gravity. The three districts mapped: Jomtien Complex (the heart now), Boyztown (the original), and Sunee Plaza (the faded heritage strip) — where they are, what's there, and when.

THE THREE DISTRICTS

JOMTIEN · THE LARGEST DIRECTORY

JOMTIEN COMPLEX

About 2 km south of central Pattaya, also branded Supertown Walking Street. Its current official directory names about 15 bars and refers to twelve or more others, plus restaurants and hotels, and says bars may operate until 02:00. Its M2M page says 22:00; TravelGay, read 26 July 2026, says 22:30, so confirm that show on the day.

CENTRAL · THE ORIGINAL

BOYZTOWN

The original gay strip, off Beach Road around Pattayaland Soi 3 in central Pattaya. A compact heritage district of showbars with live cabaret and dance shows (Boyz Boyz Boyz, Castro), massage and restaurants. Hit hard by the pandemic and slowly rebuilding — easy to fold into a central night.

SOUTH PATTAYA · HERITAGE CHECK

SUNEE PLAZA

An older heritage area with much thinner current exact-venue evidence than Jomtien Complex. Treat Sunee as an optional same-day check, not a guaranteed full circuit: verify the specific address and current hours before crossing town.

WHAT TO EXPECT

THE SCENE

Open-front beer bars and showbars with street-side seating, cabaret and dance shows, and a friendly, easygoing feel — the Silom Soi 4 vibe transplanted to the coast. Bars are walk-in and free to enter; cabaret is free with a drink, and you tip the performers. Dongtan Beach, the north end of Jomtien, is the gay beach by day.

// 18:30 → 02:00

THE EVENING, MAPPED

18:30

SUNDOWN · BARS OPEN

Street-side bars fill from sunset. The early evening is relaxed — good for a first wander before the crowd builds.

22:00

THE STREET FILLS

Jomtien Complex's three sois hit their stride. The covered main street keeps it going rain or shine — wander the loop and sit where the vibe's right.

22:00 / 22:30

M2M — SOURCES CONFLICT

The current Jomtien Complex directory says 22:00; TravelGay, read 26 July 2026, says 22:30. Do not split the difference: confirm with M2M on the day.

02:00

LAST CALL

Jomtien Complex winds down around 02:00; the central strips keep similar hours.

LATE

ON INTO THE NIGHT

Still going? The mixed clubs on Walking Street run to 04:00 — a short Grab from the centre. The strip is mapped here.

CURRENT SIGNALS, NAMED

The Jomtien Complex directory currently names about 15 bars and refers to twelve or more others, and says the district's bars are allowed to operate until 02:00. Its home page calls the area Thailand's Top Gay Destination. That quotation is the district's own branding; the useful operational facts are the directory size, named listings and published time.

The timing disagreement is material. Jomtien Complex's current M2M listing says the nightly show starts at 22:00. TravelGay, read 26 July 2026, lists M2M as 16:00–02:00 with the show at 22:30. Both sources identify the same venue, so this guide reports both times and tells you to confirm; it does not average them. TravelGay separately lists Cocka2 at 16:00–02:00 and X Boys at 20:00–04:00, useful examples of why a district-wide close is not a venue promise. Because TravelGay is a directory rather than the operator, it is used only to expose the discrepancy; the current district listing leads, and direct same-day confirmation is the final check.

Pride dates add a different kind of planning signal. The Tourism Authority of Thailand reported on 2 June 2026 that Central Pattana's eighth annual parade on 27 June featured 3,000 LGBTQ+ celebrities. The quoted aim from Central Pattana's CMO was for people to feel a true sense of belonging. Separately, the Thai Government PRD notice of 1 May 2026 listed the Pattaya International Pride Festival for 26–28 June on Beach Road and a circuit event for 19–21 June at The Zign Hotel. Those are dated 2026 event facts, not weekly schedules.

For central Pattaya, Pride Thailand's 22 July 2026 profile says Boyz Boyz Boyz's official channels publish a daily 21:30 show. Confirm it through the venue before building the Pattayaland route; use the Jomtien zone guide for the southern cluster.

The calendar and the nightly scene need separate checks. June's two Pride programmes establish dated festival precedent, but they do not prove a recurring 2027 date or a bar's normal hours. Build an ordinary night from current venue channels; build a festival weekend from the organiser's dated programme, road notices and transport plan.

Verdict: choose Jomtien Complex for the deepest current named directory, Boyztown for a compact central add-on, and Sunee only after a same-day exact-venue check. During festival weekends, expect the Beach Road programme to change transport and crowd patterns. The cabaret guide and safety briefing complete the plan.

Verified 26 July 2026 from Jomtien Complex, TravelGay, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Government PRD and Pride Thailand. Correction note: the conflicting M2M times are shown separately, and stale exact-venue claims for Sunee were removed. Email a correction.

THE PLAYBOOK

№ 01

Base where the action is

Stay in Jomtien for the Complex on your doorstep, or central Pattaya to pair Boyztown with Walking Street. They're a short baht-bus or Grab apart.

№ 02

Jomtien Complex first

If you only do one, make it Jomtien Complex — it's where the bars, cabaret and crowd are now. Boyztown is the smaller, central add-on.

№ 03

Day at Dongtan

Dongtan Beach, the quiet north end of Jomtien, is the gay beach — sun loungers and beach bars by day before the Complex at night.

№ 04

Walk-in and easy

Bars are free to enter with street-side seating — wander the sois and sit where you like. Cabaret is free with a drink; tip the performers.

// QUICK ANSWERS

ASKED & ANSWERED

Where is the gay area in Pattaya?

The current Jomtien Complex directory names about 15 bars in Jomtien and refers to twelve or more others. Boyztown is the compact original district off Beach Road, while Sunee Plaza is a quieter heritage-area option whose exact venues should be checked individually.

Is Boyztown or Jomtien Complex better?

Choose Jomtien Complex for the largest current directory and a walkable cluster, or Boyztown for a smaller central stop near the Pattayaland and Walking Street circuit. Many visitors can do both, but should confirm the exact venues they want first.

What is Jomtien Complex?

A compact nightlife area in Jomtien, also branded Supertown Walking Street. Its current official directory names about 15 bars and refers to twelve or more others, plus restaurants, hotels and other services, and says bars are allowed to operate until 02:00.

Is Sunee Plaza still open?

Treat Sunee Plaza as an optional heritage-area check, not a guaranteed full evening. Current exact-venue evidence is thinner than for Jomtien Complex, so verify the specific address on the day before travelling across town.

What time does gay nightlife close in Pattaya?

The Jomtien Complex directory says its bars may operate until 02:00 and lists M2M's nightly show at 22:00. TravelGay, read 26 July 2026, lists the same show at 22:30. The sources conflict, so confirm with M2M on the day.
